What hosting and a domain actually are.
No jargon. Quick answers for the questions every business owner has.
What is a domain?
A domain is your website's address, like dentara.ai. It's how people find your site. You buy it from a registrar (the company that sells the name) for a small yearly fee.
What is hosting?
Hosting is the computer that stores your website and serves it to visitors. Think of the domain as the address and hosting as the building it points to. Hosting is usually paid monthly.
Who owns the domain and hosting?
You do. We register your domain in your name and set up hosting on an account you own. You receive every login credential at launch.
Who pays for them?
You do, directly to the providers. Domain is typically $10, $20 per year. Hosting is typically a few dollars per month. Dentara does not mark these up or take a cut.
Can I transfer them later?
Yes, at any time. Domains can be transferred to any registrar. Hosting can be moved to any provider. We will help you do the transfer cleanly if you ever want to leave.
Can Dentara manage them for me?
Yes. We can handle renewals and basic hosting upkeep on your behalf. The accounts still belong to you, we just operate them with your permission.
Can another company manage them later?
Absolutely. You're never locked in. Hand the credentials to another agency, IT person, or in-house team whenever you choose.
